Allan's Story...

Do you ever dream of wanting to slow down, live a simpler and less stressful life?  I did too and in 2012, along with my wonderful wife, decided to make it a reality.

I first visited the South Shore of Nova Scotia back in 2008 for a vacation and was instantly drawn to the charm of its small towns, quaint little fishing villages and of course the ocean with its rugged and beautiful coastlines.  Purchasing a small Cape Cod in Blue Rocks with views over Lunenburg Bay in 2010 as a vacation home it was not long before the lure of the ocean and longing for that simpler life took a firm hold and so it was in 2012 we made the leap.

I knew from the very beginning I was going to build a small workshop and spend my time, time I’d never quite managed to find before, following a passion for making, creating and crafting from wood.  And so it was, Ocean View Woodworking was born.

As an artisan, specializing in indigenous woods like Maple, Ash, Birch and Tamerack and harvested locally from sustainably managed woodlots I enjoy crafting furniture, cutting boards and other home decor pieces for my growing list of satisfied clients.

Most days you’ll find me pottering in the workshop, hand carving spoons, finishing the latest piece of furniture or crafting one-of-a-kind cutting boards.

On Thursday mornings I can be found at the Lunenburg Farmers’ Market and the happiness and joy I get sharing my creations and my journey to Nova Scotia's South Shore with folks from all over the world is quite simply food for the soul.

And when I need to refuel those creative juices, my wife and our faithful four legged friend Alfie, hit one of our favourite beaches where the only stress in life is his insatiable desire to eat every piece of seaweed in sight.
