"handcrafted from local materials, our heirloom quality reflects a bygone tradition
and simple design blends form and function to last a lifetime"
Last year I bought my sister-in-law a beautiful two-toned, reversible cutting board. She uses it for entertaining, which she does a lot. She likes it so much that she carts it back and forth between Nova Scotia, where she spends the summers, and Toronto, where she spends the winters. I'll buy another next time I'm in wonderful Nova Scotia.
The main thing I'd like to say about Allan is that he's an artist. To me, that means a lot. I know I could buy something nice elsewhere, but I am quite sure that I wouldn't fall in love with the piece. Allan's works are absolutely worth every dime we've spent, simply because they give us joy. It just so happens that Allan is also a lovely person, which makes us even happier to do business with him.
Since we visit NS yearly, we visited Allan at the farmer's market again last week. Two people had asked us to purchase boards for them. While shopping for them, we (unexpectedly...again) purchased an amazing Walnut Charcuterie for ourselves. Spectacular.
Always a pleasure to purchase another beautiful board!
My wife was in search of a fine quality butcher's block, but I was having difficulty finding adequate blocks from companies doing business in America. After extremely careful browsing on the web, Ocean View Woodworking had the proper products and processes that we appreciate. Also, we are fans of Nova Scotia and Allan has left another good impression of what's over there.
I am thoroughly enjoying the cutting board..using it for all my entertaining .. maybe a little obnoxious having this wonderful very unique whale cutting board that no one else has. I have also used the special oil I bought on all my cutting boards. I will be back again this summer when I visit Nova Scotia. This time for some Xmas gifts.
I just bought my second board from Allan. Last year, I purchased a spectacular Birdseye Maple Chopping Block from him at the farmer's market in Lunenburg. I wasn't in the market for one, but was so taken by the beauty of the piece that I purchased it. I am not alone; everyone who sees it, loves it. It is that gorgeous. It is also beautifully made. I use it fairly often, and it looks wonderful. I often use it to serve homemade bread or cheese and crackers. I wipe it down and use the wonderful-smelling board butter occasionally to keep it in shape.
Great work and local artistry.
Very, very positive. You took time to explain how to finish the board I was in the process of having made up and I appreciate it. I spoke to my guy and he was doing what you would do...no toxins! I was so impressed that after getting into the car and almost pulling away, I decided to go back in and make a purchase of that lovely board for you to send out West to my son.
